1994: First locally-produced English drama – Masters of the Sea
This was the first English drama produced by the Television Corporation. The story describes the rivalry between siblings with the strong message of "blood is not thicker than water".
This was the first English drama produced by the Television Corporation. The story describes the rivalry between siblings with the strong message of "blood is not thicker than water".
Brief information about Masters of the Sea would be displayed. Visitors can see the background information about the drama when they enter the room on the right. For those who are not familiar with the film, many photographs of main episodes will be also exhibited beside the background information, especially those of actors and actresses who appeared in the drama with short profile of them as the drama has the feature of its cast of veteran actors and new faces at that time.
Next, videos of interviews with the different personnel involved in this classic local production will be screened, to allow visitors to know more about what went on behind the scenes. Also, a few memorable scenes will be screened on the loop. At the end of this exhibit, there will also be a photo booth for those who wish to take pictures with the background of the drama.
1995 – 2003: First locally-produced sitcom – Under One Roof
Bishan Park is a commonly depicted scene in the sitcom. As such, it will be used as the backdrop of this exhibit.
The photo will be split into 3 parts, one for side 1, one for side 2, and one for side 3 respectively as shown above.

Under One Roof is Singapore’s first locally produced sitcom and is the first Singaporean sitcom to be dubbed in French. It is also the first local sitcom to be aired in Australia and Canada and has been exported to many countries. There are 7 seasons and 137 episodes in total spanning a total of 8 years from 1995 to 2003.
Plot
The story revolves around the Tan family. The main character is Tan Ah Teck , who is the head of the family. He has a wife, Dolly and three children, Ronnie, Paul and Denise. Tan Ah Teck is a mini-mart owner and loves to tell his own stories to his wife and children. Dolly is a housewife and often lends a hearing ear for her husband’s stories. The plot also involves Yusof, Malay who sells mee-rebus and his wife Rosnah, and also Daisy and Michael, who are siblings of Indian descent. All the characters live in the same flat.

According to the floor plan, photographs of how Singapore looked like in the 1960s to 1980s will be put up on the walls. This is in alignment with the era in which Growing Up is set in.

Introduction
Phua Chu Kang is the first longest running sitcom in Singapore spanning 10 years and 8 seasons which debuted in 1997 and ended in 2007. In 2009, the sequel “Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd” was produced by Malaysian channel ntv7 which was shot in Malaysia. Plot Phua Chu Kang is a contractor who wears his shirt in an untidy manner, wears yellow boots and has a mole on his face. He likes to say that he is the best in Singapore, JB (short form of Johor Bahru, which is a Malaysian city situated north of Singapore) and some say Batam (an Indonesian island situated south of Singapore). Phua Chu Kang is famous for his catchphrase “Don’t play play”. Phua Chu Kang has a wife whose name is Rosie. She loves to play mah-jong and wears colourful clothes. Phua Chu Kang has a brother, Phua Chu Beng and sister-in-law, Margaret, who is Phua Chu Beng’s wife. Other characters are Phua Ah Ma, Phua Chu Kang’s mother, Aloysius, son of Phua Chu Beng and Margaret. And not forgetting King Kong and Ah Goon who are Phua Chu Kang’s workers. |

1998: First English superhero drama – VR Man
VR Man depicts the story of how Alex, the main character, got superhuman powers upon chance one fine day, and becomes VR man. He goes about saving people from troubles, and becomes the superhero for the people.

As the first super hero drama, it may be very attractive to young children who did not grow up with this drama because it has a unique costume and the character of the "hero". Main posters of VR man will be put up on the wall of the first wall on the right to draw visitors’ attention to its concept of superhero drama. Like Masters of the Sea, the younger generations would not know the drama, so brief information of the drama will be displayed next to the main poster, along with some photos of certain episodes/scenes. Brief profiles of the main actors and actresses with pictures will also be displayed. Next, people can watch short screenings of various episodes comfortably in the sitting zone.
Finally, there would be a special corner with VR Man's costumes, as well as his iconic eye mask. These are for visitors to take home, they can also use them as props for the photo booth. Several sizes of the costumes will be prepared to cater to visitors of all ages and sizes. |
2007 – current: First parody variety show – The Noose
The Noose is a parody of local news programmes; the first of its kind, it is has proven to be highly popular and has aired for six seasons. It has won several awards, in 2010, and 2011, at the Asian Television Awards, and the most recent one, in 2013, being a gold award at the PromaxBDA Global Excellence Awards for using Multiple Media for a Comedy Programme Promotion Campaign. The show is prominent for its talented cast of actors, all of whom are able to assume multiple personalities on screen. In this exhibit, this aspect is made salient by showcasing characters that have appeared on the show through the use of an interactive touch screen.
On the main page of the interactive touch screen, a description of The Noose will be provided.

The Noose is a Singapore comedy TV series produced by MediaCorp Channel 5 which has aired in Singapore for six seasons, in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013. It is a parody of local news programmes such as News 5 Tonight, with fictional news reports and a presentation mimicking that of the real news.
Next, there is the option of choosing to view by seasons or by cast.
On the ‘Seasons’ page, there will be six tabs to choose from, with each tab representing one season. Within each tab, viewers will have the option to view the highest grossing episode of the season.
